Genuflection to a Cormorant

A cormorant has no oil on her feathers.

If you've ever seen a duck dive, you might understand why.
By trading sleek and water-proof plumage, a cormorant can dive exceptionally deep.

Then she emerges from the water, bedraggled and wet, to perch upon a branch. She spreads her wings out to dry in the sun, sitting through hours of her life, still as the branch she is perched upon.

When she is finally dry, she may dive again. Or she might fly.

I suppose it all depends on how well her fishing went.

At the center of the Earth
In the parking lot
Of the 7-11 were I was taught
The motto was just a lie
It says home is where your heart is
But what a shame
Cause everyone's heart
Doesn't beat the same

Have you known many bears?
Or birds for that matter.
They both eat fish you know.
